Eddie Low

Ian MoirI was born and bred in Aberdeen where I spent the first five years of my working life learning the stone-cutters trade as a monumental mason. On completion of my apprenticeship I went to work in Canada which broadened many aspects of life. One of which was to work on land rigs in Calgary. On returning to Scotland in 1969 I went to work in the newborn offshore oil industry. I stayed in the oil industry for 30 years. Finally, I relocated to Fife where I worked until my retiral in 1999.

It was then that I took up wood-turning. This was something I wanted to do for a years but could never find the time to fit it in with my work committments. Nowadays I derive great enjoyment from turning lumps of dead wood into recognisable objects that people can admire and use. With imagination, a tree that would otherwise have rotted on the forest floor can be given new life and purpose. This is achieved by meticulously shaping and treating the article until I am satisfied that it has become an ornament of true beauty.
